Poem by Suraj Shah. Inspired by greatness.
It’s 6am.
I turn to give you a good morning kiss.
But you’re no longer here.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 7am.
I prepare four slices of toast.
But you won’t join me for breakfast.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 8am.
I turn on the heated seats in the car.
But you won’t be driven to work today.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 12pm.
I start dialling your number on the phone.
But you won’t be answering your phone.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 5pm.
I’ve left work and can’t wait till dinner.
But you won’t be at home preparing it.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 6pm.
I reach home and put the key in the door.
But you’re not waiting to greet me.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 7pm.
I put on my walking shoes to take a stroll.
But you won’t be walking alongside me.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 8pm.
I reach for the remote to watch our show.
But you won’t be laughing along with me.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 10pm.
I say “come darling, lets go to bed”.
But you won’t be sleeping next to me.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s 11pm.
I reach out for a warm cuddle.
But the bed is cold and empty.
You’re no longer here and I miss you.
It’s midnight.
I look within and find God.
You may not be here with me, but
I no longer miss you so much.
